Itinerary

Day 1:

Join the Fula Princess in Basse Santa Su, the most Easterly town on the river in Gambia at 1 pm. After lunch take a stroll around the town and Basse’s bustling market or relax onboard and watch the world go by. Basse is jokingly referred to as ‘The Vegas of the East’ and has a number of bars that offer a very local experience for adventurous visitors who would like an evening out. Sleep onboard the Fula Princess near Basse.

Day 2:

After breakfast, you will cruise West to Diabugu Tendala, a two-compound village located on the river bank at a local crossing point. Diabugu Tendala is very ‘off-the-beaten-track’ and you will receive a traditionally warm welcome with drumming and dancing. You will also meet the silversmith and perhaps see him at work with his hand-bellowed furnace. Sleep around Diabugu Tendala.

Day 3:

Depart Diabugu Tendala after breakfast and head to Sami Karantaba where you will disembark and visit the small memorial to Mungo Park, who famously camped there in preparation for his explorations inland. Return to the Fula Princess and head on to Janjanbureh, calling in at Bansang on the way if you wish to visit the market. Your evening meal can either be served onboard the Fula Princess or at a local restaurant. Sleep around Janjanbureh.

Day 4:

After breakfast, take a walk around the town and visit the Kankurang Centre, an exhibition dedicated to the West African masquerade culture, and if you wish, try one of our optional activities. Check-out is at 12pm.
